From the makers of Botox, Allergan, Inc, comes a drug that will make your lashes--longer, thicker, darker, Latisse. This product means what it says!!! My lashes are so much longer and thicker. Latisse made my lashes darker too, so now when I take my mascara off at night, it looks like I still have it on!!! LOVE IT!!! What is BOTOX? BOTOX is the trade name of Botulinum Toxin Type A, purified neurotoxin complex manufactured by Allergan. In large amounts, this toxin blocks the nerve impulses to muscles, causing a form of paralysis to each muscle group. Although it is a toxin, BOTOX has been used safely by ophthalmologists for over 10 years. It has been used for wrinkle therapy since the early 1990’s with no serious side effects. In fact, people with migraine or chronic headache pain often find relief of their symptoms after BOTOX therapy. This naturally formed substance (BOTOX) is injected into muscle that is contracting abnormally. Be assured that BOTOX therapy is safe. It has been tested and used for aesthetic purposes for many years and is an especially popular treatment for visible signs of aging. By using extremely small doses of BOTOX, injected directly into a specific muscle, only the action of that muscle will be paralyzed. Therefore, the problem that muscle causes will be stopped, leaving your skin smooth and relaxed. After the treatment, the overlying skin remains smooth and unwrinkled while the untreated facial muscles contract in a normal fashion. Some of the most common areas treated include crow’s feet, frown lines, laugh lines, and forehead wrinkles. Can it be used for wrinkles? BOTOX injections are best on the upper third of the face. Forehead lines, furrows between the eyebrows, and lines around the eyes (”crow’s feet”) respond favorably to the treatment. Please visit our office for a personal consultation on how BOTOX treatments can help you. Are there any side effects? The side effects of BOTOX injections are typically related to the area where the solution is injected. There may be a slight discomfort from the needle entering the skin, and a small chance of a bruise at the site of the injection. There have been no permanent treatment side effects. In fact, BOTOX treatments have recently been awarded approval for cosmetic use by the Food And Drug Administration. Am I a candidate? If you would like to learn more about what BOTOX treatments can do for you, simply call our office. Our doctors are experienced in BOTOX injections and will be able to tell you if the treatments will work for you. 07/13/09
At the Eye Center of Texas, cataract surgery has come a long way in the last few years. Just a few years ago, a cataract patient coming into our practice did not a have a choice of lens implants when having cataract surgery. Everyone got a single focus implant (IOL) with no correction for astigmatism. Today, Dr. Edward C. Wade and Dr. Mark L. Mayo offer special implants (IOLs) that focus on a specific patient’s needs. A cataract is a natural clouding of the lens of the eye. It is a process that happens to everyone with age. When a cataract gets to the point that it is affecting quality of vision to the extent that a patient’s quality of life is affected, Dr. Wade and Dr. Mayo recommend cataract surgery. They perform advanced cataract surgery without injections around the eye. IV sedation is used to relax our patients and eye drops are used for numbing the eye. Since Dr. Wade and Dr. Mayo use incisions of around 2 millimeters, no sutures are needed and an eye patch is not necessary. Patients start postoperative medications right away and are able to return to the comfort of their home within a couple of hours of cataract surgery. Today there are choices other than the standard distance monofocal implant. Dr. Wade and Dr. Mayo offer the ReSTOR IOL, which is an intraocular implant that is used to restore a patients near…far…and everything in between vision. We can also reduce or eliminate astigmatism by using the Alcon Acrysof Toric intraocular lens implant. We sometimes need to fine tune our results by using laser vision correction. Dr. Wade and Dr. Mayo are extremely experienced with the ReSTOR IOL; in fact Dr. Wade is one of the top 20 ReSTOR surgeons in the U.S. and has more experience with the ReSTOR lens than any surgeon in the Houston area. The Eye Center of Texas has offices in Houston/Bellaire; Pasadena; Clear Lake; South East Houston; Sugar Land and Katy. It's been 40 years since NASA's first Apollo Moon Landing...do you remember where you were when this exciting news broke? I do...and I bet most people over the age of 50 remember where they were too. NASA has made huge advances since its first mission, and like NASA, eye care has made big technological advances as well…especially in cataract surgery.
