Last Friday, Good Morning America ran a story about LASIK eye correction. At the Eye Center of Texas, we are very proud of our LASIK surgeons, Dr. Edward Wade and Dr. Mark Mayo...and what they have given thousands of patients - great vision! Bad things can happen after surgery. LASIK is no exception. But, LASIK has provided 15 million happy patients and a handful of unhappy ones. There was a time when the US military and NASA did not allow fighter pilots/astronauts to have LASIK - however that is no longer the case. Here are a couple of facts: The Navy spends more than $2M training a single pilot. It takes two and a half years to complete flight training. Carrier pilots rely heavily on high quality vision to land aboard the boat at night. Many of them complain when their vision degrades from 20/12 to 20/16. For most of them 20/20 simply isn’t good enough. Yet, the refractive surgery program in the Navy is thriving and well funded, because it works, it’s safe, and profoundly enhances the operational readiness of our military personnel in all warfare communities. If there was a significant problem with the procedure or the outcomes, the pilots themselves would refuse to have it. Even the ultra-conservative NASA medical department has embraced LASIK technology for the astronaut corps, based largely on 10 years of Navy studies. Dr. Waxler who was featured in the segment, retired from the FDA 10 years ago – the technology has vastly changed in 10 years and the problems encountered then, by and large, no longer exist. At the Eye Center of Texas, we offer a FREE LASIK evaluation. These test can take up to 2 hours and will tell us if you are a good candidate for LASIK surgery. LASIK is amazing...but do yourself a favor, don't base your decision on price. Base it on the surgeon...their experience...and the technology they use. You want to know that you are getting the most trusted LASIK procedure available. That’s why at the Eye Center of Texas we only offer our patients the highly advanced IntraLase Method (iLASIK). And here’s another reason to be confident in the iLASIK procedure…the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) only allow this technology to be used on U.S. astronauts. The NASA decision was made following review of extensive military clinical data using Advanced CustomVue LASIK with the IntraLase Method, which showed the combination of technologies provides superior safety and vision. “Even your most-extreme lifestyle is nothing compared to being ejected from an F16 or the G-Forces of atmospheric blastoff,” said Dr. Edward Wade. “With today’s advanced LASIK technologies -- which feature the use of two lasers, instead of one as with earlier forms of the procedure -- patients can be confident that they will have improved vision, but also that the procedure has proven to be extremely safe as well.” Approved for use on consumers almost a decade ago, more than 15 million LASIK procedures have been performed to-date, making it the most-common elective surgical procedure in the U.S. But it wasn’t until LASIK developed into an all-laser procedure that NASA approved it for use on pilots, mission and payload specialists who face extreme, physically demanding conditions in space. TODAY’S ADVANCED LASIK USES ALL-LASER TECHNOLOGY In the second step of advanced LASIK, wavefront-guided technology maps, and then custom- patients today. corrects vision based upon the unique characteristics of an individual’s eye. This sophisticated measurement provides 25 times more precision than measurements using standard methods for glasses and contact lenses, taking patients to 20/20 vision and beyond. Advanced CustomVue LASIK with the IntraLase Method Dr. Edward Wade of the Eye Center of Texas has performed over 40,000 LASIK procedures and has been named one of the Top LASIK surgeons in the U.S. Call the Eye Center of Texas at 713-395-1515 to schedule your FREE iLASIK evaluation. 02/19/10
LASIK surgery has emerged as one of the most common elective eye surgical procedures done today. At the Eye Center of Texas, our LASIK surgeon, Dr. Edward Wade has been very successful with LASIK eye surgery mainly because of his vast experience (he's done over 40,000 LASIK procedures), but also because he only uses the very best technology. He offers his patients iLASIK (blade free) and Custom LASIK. In LASIK, a thin flap is made in the superficial layers of the cornea. At the Eye Center of Texas this flap is only made with IntraLase. IntraLase is a laser that makes the safest and most accurate flap possible. He then uses the CustomVue which is a way that the VISX laser takes a wave map or wave print of your visual system that allows Dr. Wade to correct your vision in a custom way. This custom laser vision correction automatically centers, automatically tracks and uses iris registration to exactly place the laser eye surgery correction. Talk about quick.... most patients are able to drive, work, and return to normal activities the very next day. For those patients that need advanced surface ablation such as PRK, the recovery takes a few days. If you've been thinking about having LASIK...call us today! We offer free iLASIK evaluations and if you need a little help with payments...we can help you connect with Care Credit. Call us at 713-395-1515 to schedule your free iLASIK evaluation. 01/28/10
As we age, our bodies undergo many changes. One significant change that causes frustration for people is the gradual loss of near vision that usually starts in the early to middle 40’s and gets progressively worse until the middle to late 50’s. This normal and unavoidable effect of aging is called presbyopia. Presbyopia arises due to changes in the lens of the eye. Like in a camera the lens of the eye is responsible for adjusting focus. When we are young, we can easily change focus to look at objects that are nearby or far away. This is because, our lens is young and soft, and can quickly, and easily, change its shape to accommodate between distance and near focus. But as we age, the lens becomes stiff and can no longer easily change its shape. As a result, we can no longer adjust our focus to see up close without some help. Help for presbyopia comes in several forms…reading glasses (readers…cheaters) bifocals; mono-vision contacts; mono-vision LASIK correction and the latest…Multifocal Intraocular Lens (IOL). IOL’s correct your distance vision...mid range vision... and your reading vision. Patients that have had this procedure say it's like turning back the clock. Dr. Edward Wade and Dr. Mark Mayo are extremely experienced with the ReSTOR IOL; in fact Dr. Wade is one of the top 10 ReSTOR surgeons in the U.S. and has more experience with the ReSTOR lens than any surgeon in the Houston area. Call the Eye Center of Texas at 713-395-1515 to ask about our free multifocal IOL evaluation. The Eye Center of Texas has offices in Houston/Bellaire; Pasadena; Clear Lake; South East Houston; Sugar Land and Katy. |
