Patients have a choice in intraocular lens implants lenses or IOLs that are used to restore their vision. The standard lens we use is the monofocal which corrects distance vision. With this lens, patients still need glasses for reading. If patients have a desire to see without glasses, we offer the ReSTOR IOL. This premium implant allows patients to see near, far and everything in between without glasses or with a limited use of glasses. You do not have to choose one of these implants, but if you desire less dependence on glasses, they are a wonderful way to achieve it.

Today, the majority of patients who undergo cataract surgery receive monofocal lenses, which typically require them to use reading glasses or bifocals for near vision following surgery.

A cataract is a “clouding” of the eye’s natural lens, which results in blurred or defocused vision. The Visian ICL procedure is an outpatient procedure. Dr. Wade will surgically insert the Visian ICL between the iris and the natural lens of the eye. The procedure takes about 15 minutes for each eye and only requires a topical anesthesia. Vision is normally restored within a few hours after surgery. The Visian ICL will stay in place indefinitely and should require no maintenance.

How effective is the Visian ICL for improving vision? A U.S. FDA clinical trial of 294 patients showed excellent results three years after implantation with the Visian ICL:
