ReSTOR

ReSTOR Intraocular Lenses

Nearsighted?  Farsighted?  Reached the age where you have trouble reading the fine print?  Can you imagine life without your bifocals or contacts?  Would you like to be able to read the numbers on your watch or the smaller print on a menu without reaching for your glasses?  Multifocal Intraocular Lenses such as ReSTOR may be the answer for you!  ReSTOR is the number one brand used here at the Eye Center.  We also use Crystalens or ReZoom, depending on the patient’s vision needs.

These IOLs are artificial lenses that are surgically implanted in your eye.  Once in place, ReSTOR lenses will correct ones near, distance and everything in between vision.  ReSTOR is manufactured by Alcon and these lenses are most often used in conjunction with cataract surgery ReSTOR lenses are used to replace the cloudy natural lens of the patient that has been adversely impacting their vision.  With ReSTOR lenses, the cataract is resolved and, in most cases, the patient also will no longer require glasses or contacts following the procedure.  Click here to read more details about cataract surgery at the Eye Center.

ReSTOR lenses without Cataracts
For patients who do not have cataracts at all or only have the beginning of cataracts, ReSTOR lenses are may the best choice for vision correction.  By having the ReSTOR multifocal lens, vision is corrected and any potential cataracts are preempted.  The ReSTOR lenses will remain in place for the rest of the patient’s lifetime.  Of course if no cataract is present, the surgery is likely to be considered elective and the cost may not be covered by your insurance.  We do have affordable financing options available.

Remember that with or without cataracts, the surgical procedure to implant IOLs is the same. It is the most frequently performed and one of the safest surgical procedures in the United States.

To find out if ReSTOR or one of the other brands of IOLs is right for you, please call us at 713-395-1515.  We’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have or to set an appointment for a free evaluation.  You owe it to yourself to consider a life without the hindrance of glasses or contacts.

AcrySof ReSTOR LENS…An Innovative Intraocular Lens to Restore a Full Range of Vision After Cataract Surgery

[Posted on September 14]

Nearly 3 million people undergo cataract surgery every year. Many wear glasses for the rest of their lives. Until now. A breakthrough FDA-approved intraocular lens (IOL) called the AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens is revolutionizing the way people see after cataract surgery.

How is the AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens implanted?
Your natural lens that has developed a cataract is replaced with the flexible, permanent AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens during cataract surgery. After your surgeon removes your natural “cloudy” cataract lens, the soft acrylic ReSTOR® lens is implanted in the eye via proven techniques used to insert a standard IOL. Essentially, the new lens is folded and placed into the eye through a very small incision. The clear artificial AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens then gently unfolds and is set into its permanent position, restoring vision at all distances.

How does the AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens differ from other IOLs?
The AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens is an improvement over traditional IOLs used to help restore vision after cataract surgery. The AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens uses three complementary technologies (apodization, diffraction and refraction) to restore a full range of vision following cataract surgery. The lens uses a newly patented technology for collecting and distributing light without relying on the eye’s ciliary muscle, which can lose its effectiveness with age. As a result, the AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens allows you to see at all distances, similar to the natural human lens.

AcrySof® ReSTOR® Lens Results
Clinical trials have proven the following:
• With the AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens implant, 80 percent of cataract patients (with or without presbyopia) could see clearly without the aid of glasses or bifocals following implantation in both eyes.
• 84 percent of patients who received the AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens in both eyes achieved a distance visual sharpness of 20/25 or better and near visual sharpness of 20/32 or better.
• Typical IOLs restore vision in limited sight ranges. The AcrySof® ReSTOR® lens has
proven to reinstate vision at all distances— near, immediate and far.

The Eye Center of Texas has been using these lenses since 2004 with great success and an amazing level of patient satisfaction.   Dr. Edward Wade of the Eye Center of Texas is one of the top 20 ReSTOR Surgeons in the country.  To learn more, please visit us at www.eyecenteroftexas.com
