Choosing the Right Surgeon
Cataract surgery is a major life-changing event and choosing a surgeon should not be taken lightly. Our cataract surgeons, Dr. Mark Mayo, Dr. Edward Wade, and Dr. Yasir Ahmed have performed thousands of successful cataract procedures and are experienced LASIK surgeons (which is important because approximately 10% of cataract IOL patients require a small laser vision correction at 6 weeks post-op). They offer the latest in advanced lifestyle lens implants, specialize in bladeless cataract surgery and have a very low complication rate. Our surgeons aim to achieve the best for every patient by working with a team of experienced doctors that will carefully analyze your eye health and visual needs.
Dr. Mayo attended Southwestern Medical School in Dallas and graduated at the top of his medical school class. Dr. Wade graduated first in his class from Baylor College of Medicine and was awarded the Michael DeBakey Scholar Award. They are trusted by 300 referring eye doctors who send their patients, their families, and themselves to Eye Center of Texas.
Evaluating Your Surgeon
Not all cataract surgeons have the same skill level or experience. Patients should evaluate the following before proceeding with cataract surgery:
- Is your surgeon board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology? Board-certified doctors have undergone additional training and testing.
Click here for list of ABO certified doctors - Has the FDA, which approves all procedures, hand selected your surgeon to be a part of its clinical trials?
- Does your cataract surgeon have experience treating challenging or complicated cases?
- Is your cataract surgeon responsive to your questions prior to surgery, and does he provide a realistic assessment of your potential based on your lifestyle needs?
- What is your cataract surgeon’s safety record?
- What is your cataract surgeon’s enhancement rate?
- How many cataract procedures has your surgeon performed in his/her entire career?
